Nurturing The Outside Child….

Nurturing the Outside child is an investigation into if and / or how mother-artists in Trinidad maintain an art practice while raising children. My paintings; five portraits and two abstracted series, all rendered in watercolor, were produced in response to my research and draw upon the experiences of various mother-artists.

The portraits examine how mother-artists work, including the experience of mothering and art practice, challenges they may face and choices they have made as a result. In my abstracted works which I call fragments, series one rendered in blues looks at institutional and societal constructs that affect mother-artists while series two, the pink series, looks at mothering versus motherhood.
