Inspired by Dionne Brand, Breaking the Vision takes its name from her statement that we “must return to come forward…must break the vision of us that we did not make…must reclaim history”
Each 28x20” piece combines watercolour with archive images and documents and is composed to resemble colonial era postcards. Borders use both uli and Madhubani motifs which are gendered ancestral painting legacies.
